Brand Identity & Communications

Tahltan Band

Along with the increased visibility and growing needs of the Tahltan Band, it became critical for the leadership to address its communications and visually tell its story. Improved engagement with all of its Tahltan members, as well as external audiences, was essential to the Band leadership and staff, which made an improved identity system and brand communication channels a priority.

What happened/What we did

Partnering with Engage Consultancy (a communications firm with deep expertise in First Nations work), RDC conducted a strategic communications and brand audit, including interviews with the Chief, Council, Band Manager, and key staff. The brand gap analysis and research revealed several key strategic issues and identified core strengths to build a revitalized brand. A Communication Toolkit and Brand Strategy identifying top communications priorities were developed to support various tactics within the toolkit to be produced as a part of this project. A new identity program and brand platform emerged through close consultation with Tahltan cultural advisors.

Honouring the Past/Into the Future

The new Tahltan Band Brand now reflects the progressive, collaborative, and supportive nature of the Tahltan Band, conveying respect for its Territory and culture. Clear and honest, the brand is intending to show Tahltan’s strength, compassion, and confidence.

A new naming convention was adopted that better reflects the organization and connects with the community. Consistent and easy-to-use tools, in both traditional print and digital media, are now employed, and they better resonate with a varied audience.

Building upon the hard work of many, the quality of communications – from writing and photography to artwork and digital media – has been improved from the perspective of consistency and technical execution. Various interests and audiences, from local matters to government and corporate communications, are more fully considered.

Outcome

The Tahltan Band is proud of its efforts to share knowledge and empower people – from education and the arts to health and wellness. Supporting its language and culture is critical, as is safety and sustainability. The new brand supports this endeavour by bringing together the power of its cultural roots reflected by a unique iconic form, graphic integrity and clear messaging that reaches its audience with lasting impact.
