Unbreakable Exhibition

Tŝilhqot’in National Government

The truth cannot be broken.
The Tsilhqot’in story, told to the world.

In 2024, the Tsilhqot’in National Government (TNG) sought to amplify the story of their Nation’s resilience, legal triumph, and cultural identity on a global stage. With an invitation to present at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City, they faced the challenge of translating decades of lived experience, legal history, and community strength into a single, portable exhibit.

Brand Challenge

The TNG communications team approached Roodenburg Design Consultants to help them:

  • Design an immersive, adaptable exhibit for the UN and future international venues.

  • Honour the landmark Aboriginal Title ruling and the 26 Elders who testified.

  • Ensure an authentic, respectful, and visually compelling narrative for diverse audiences.

The challenge was not just to tell a story, but to create a platform for truth-telling, cultural education, and legacy-building that could evolve beyond a single event.

The Approach

Working in deep collaboration with the Tsilhqot’in leadership, communications team, cultural consultants, and contributing photographers, we developed a modular, internationally adaptable exhibition titled Unbreakable, rooted in the Nation’s own sentiment that “you can’t break the truth.”

Key steps and strategies included:

  • Narrative Architecture: Eleven double-sided, 10-foot illuminated panels documenting the Nation’s legal journey, culture, and resilience.

  • Wayfinding: Zap banners introducing themes and guiding viewers.

  • Multimedia: Video presentation and soundscape sharing historical and personal stories.

  • Modular Design: Prioritized portability, reconfiguration, and repeatable installation.

  • Project Management: Managed concept development, production files, and fabrication specs.

Our process emphasized both creative excellence and cultural responsibility, ensuring that every element honoured the Tsilhqot’in people’s vision.

The Outcome

Unbreakable premiered at the United Nations Headquarters, successfully elevating Tsilhqot’in voices on an international platform. The exhibit not only presented a record of justice but became a living testament to strength, sovereignty, and identity.

Key outcomes:

  • Delivered a flexible, modular design for ongoing installations in Canada and abroad.

  • Amplified the Tsilhqot’in story to global audiences, fostering understanding and solidarity.

  • Created a dignified space for truth-telling, recognized by international leaders and advocates.

Unbreakable continues to travel, educating and inspiring diverse audiences while reinforcing the enduring truth and resilience of the Tsilhqot’in people.
